As I mentioned some time ago, weightingfor50 is morphing and changing focus….

Starting today, I’m posting on my new blog.

Meet Lens3 – two eyes, one camera, my world.

It is in it’s infancy, is still a wordpress blog, but I will likely buy my domain shortly.

I’ve also been working on a website for The Random Heart Project.  The design is done, the pages are made, I just need to figure out a little coding and tweak a couple of features I’m not sure I like, and soon I’ll be launching that site soon.

So click away on Lens3, bookmark if you’d like, and welcome to my new world.  :)  See you over there….

Today’s Photo A Day challenge prompt is “gratitude”.  I always feel gratitude when I see evidence of people trying to make the world a better place.  Simple gestures, like this, go a long way.

This archive shot was my upload for 365 Days in Nature….

IMG_6208

And this shot (taken today) was my post on Only Shades of Gray.

The next two pictures are proof that I have officially secured my spot in pet owner hell.  I’m sorry Neva, but DAMN, you looked cute.  (truth be told, she didn’t mind the collar at all, wasn’t TOO impressed by the hat, but didn’t try and shake it off, and both were only on for a minute for a photo.  That said, sorry Neva…)

IMG_6137

We had a nice breakfast this morning, coffee, back bacon, hash browns, egg and toast.

IMG_6143

Dennis and I had to run a errand this afternoon, in a large mall.  Neither of us like malls, but it was that or not do what we wanted to do….here are some photos I took while Dennis was off “busying”…

IMG_6226

And dinner was rotisserie chicken with stove top stuffing, broccoli in cheese sauce and cranberry.

IMG_6228

Woo hoo, no more malls or shopping for us!!  Have a wonderful Sunday everyone!

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “Piled up”.  Last weekend, I saw these logs piled up on the beach at English Bay.

Breakfast this morning was a piece of challah bread with light swiss cheese and avocado.

IMG_5891

I had a salad for lunch.  Elf looks disgusted by salad.  LOL!

IMG_5907

I got involved in a fruitcake taste off at work.  No photos were taken, but Google Images helped…..

I also inhaled several Christmas cookies.

(thank you Google images)

Dennis got delayed tonight, so I saved the dinner I was going to make for us both tonight, and had an old standby, a baked potato with beans and grated cheddar.  Comfort food from university days at its finest.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “I came from…”  If I don’t live in Vancouver forever (and I’m not sure I will) I’ll say “I came from there…”

IMG_5573

This was today’s surprise sighting.  I walked in the rain looking for the elusive, Olympic Village beaver but instead saw an urban otter.  SO cute!  I posted this photo of him on 365 Days in Nature.

IMG_5837

And I posted this picture on Only Shades of Gray.

IMG_5282bw

I don’t have too many photos today.  I did go for a walk at lunchtime (see otter above), but it was VERY cold, and my camera fogged up with the temperature change.  Oh well…it was a cold rainy day, but was so worth being out, for the otters and eagles…as long as I’m bundled up, I’m fine in the chilly weather.

Before that, for breakfast I had a piece of challah with light swiss and avocado…..

IMG_5767

I shared the rum ball that one of my colleagues gave me….

IMG_5771

Extreme close up of my chopped salad from lunch….

IMG_5887

Dennis and I had a glass of wine and a piece of parmesan after work….

IMG_5888

And another extreme close up, this is our dinner which was baked pork tenderloin in sweet and sour sauce with peppers, onions, pineapple and brown rice.

IMG_5890

Here are just a few photos before the “Canon/Tamron” fog kicked in….the otter, beaver tree damage and an eagle having a crow for lunch. (nature is pretty dark sometimes)

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “faces of the season”.  I HAD to post my Elf.  :)

I ate quite a bit of cheese today.  You’re welcome.

Not at breakfast though, I had a piece of toast with an egg, hot sauce and chai tea.

IMG_5561

Lunch was a toasted cheese sandwich.

IMG_55782

One of my colleague’s family runs a dairy farm on Vancouver Island.  Their cheese is pretty stellar.  He is also a fisherman, and smokes his own salmon.  He’s leaving us for a while, so brought in a little appetizer party for my office.  Elf hung out with us.  LOL!  He’s become quite popular with some of my co-workers.

IMG_5757

IMG_5759

IMG_5760

Dinner tonight was cheese tortellini with meat sauce, Parmesan and bread.  I also had a glass of red wine.

IMG_5762

Today was a GORGEOUS sunny day.  Cold, but no complaints at all.  I took a few shots of the fresh snow on the mountains north of the city from our deck, and from our boss’ office. (he wasn’t there)

IMG_5563

IMG_5573

IMG_5574

There was a story on the news last night about the urban beaver, who has returned to the pond in Olympic Village.  I work about 10 minutes walk from the pond, so went there at lunchtime looking for the elusive (to me) little critter.  No beaver to see, but LOTS of evidence of beaver.  The chewy little guy is chewing and falling trees, and building a damn.  The city has wired around some of the trees, but I guess they’re just letting him have at the rest.  I’m see you Mr. Beaver!!!!  My lens is coming for you!!!  :)  Here are all the pics of my walk.

That’s it for today’s lens’.  Have a great Thursday!

I don’t have many pics to share today.  It is pretty late, we’ve just got home so I will catch up with the photo a day pictures tomorrow.

My day started out with Chai tea and toast with almond butter and banana.

IMG_5519

Lunch was a chopped salad.  I so needed some vegetables.

IMG_5522

I also had a piece of Kringle.  AND…I have done the impossible.  I have almost killed a mini poinsettia.  I didn’t think you COULD kill a poinsettia.  Hmm….

IMG_5523

I had some errands to run at lunchtime.  One was to stop at the liquor store, to grab a bottle of wine for a visit we had tonight.  Look at the size of these beer bottles.  They’re HUGE.  (and $199, and 10% alcohol)  Elf, don’t even think about it!  :)

IMG_5521

We had some soup before we went out….

IMG_5529

…and Elf used Neva as a yoga mat….

IMG_5525

…then we went to visit our friends Gary and Rob.  Gary and I went to high school together, and were room mates for four years.  And Rob is just awesome!  <3 them both!  And <3 their kitties.  Naughty tree whacking Atlas, and little itchy eye Prince.  As you can see, these two have an incredible tree.  I think there are about a million lights and ornaments…ok…slight exaggeration.  Thanks for the delicious food, the great laughs and the lovely evening!!!

Happy Wednesday everyone!!

Today’s Photo a Day Challenge prompt is “Looking Glass” – Elf likes looking at himself in a Looking Glass.

IMG_1318

I saw this picture of a pine tree when I was walking at lunchtime, and it seemed fitting for Natural Christmas Tree week on 365 Days in Nature.

IMG_5459

And weird random sighting today.  This snow globe was sitting in a garden container in a laneway.  I turned it black and white and posted it on Only Shades of Gray.

IMG_5486bw

Today, I had some important revelations.  I’ll share them with you.

  1. I HATE, with a passion the word “transparent”.  If I hear one more politician, newscaster or colleague say “I’m being transparent” I’ll scream.  Transparent my a*&!!!!  Stop overusing the word, and stop saying you are when you aren’t.
  2. Same goes for the expressions “acting with integrity”, “talk to the stakeholders”, “how are we accountable” and “open dialogue”….all overused.  All jargony.  All unnecessary.  There, I said it,
  3. If, given the choice between a satsuma orange or a piece of Swedish Kringle…the Kringle wins.  I’d never had Kringle before today.  It’s damn good!
  4. I really need to get back on the vegetable/fruit train…..VERY soon.  Or the next stop will be “waistband tight around the bend”
  5. I googled, and yes, seagulls DO in fact yawn.  I bet they do it with integrity though.  HA!
  6. I was contacted by a reader of my Random Heart Project, saying that I must spend most of my life looking for the hearts.  Or I use photoshop.  FUN!!!  My first snark!  I assure you, snarker, that I do NOT spend most of my life looking for the hearts, they just come to me.  And you flatter me by thinking I have the photoshop skills to create them.  Surprised me that someone would put energy into sending me that note, and I wish I knew them so I could send them a <3, give them a hug, and try to send some good wishes their way, because they may well need it.

Yes, it was a day of startling revelations!

We move on…..I ate a good healthy breakfast (egg on whole wheat bread with hot sauce), some crap (Kringle), a veggie filled lunch (kale salad, with two mini buns and some leftover spinach dip from the weekend), more crap (a cookie), and had a very uninspiring dinner (oven fries and fish fingers).  I did not eat the oranges in this collage.

PicMonkey Collage2

Seagulls do yawn, careful when standing under a heron (looked up, saw that), mushroom gills are gorgeous, and some frogs don’t want to play leapfrog…..

Happy Tuesday to all!!!!!

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “home made”.  I haven’t made anything today, so used this archive shot from last summer.  Homemade pasta, home made tomato sauce, non home made parmesan, and home grown basil. (which didn’t last long on our deck….guess we didn’t have enough sun)

IMG_0699

I posted this shot on 365 Days of Nature….

IMG_4471

I took this shot this morning, and here it is in Black and White and posted on Only Shades of Gray.

IMG_5220bw

This was my breakfast this morning.  BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS!!!!  (my meals have been ALL over the place for the last few days.  Ug.  Bring on the fruit and vegetables tomorrow!!!)

IMG_5130

I was honoured/excited to accompany my friend Joanne to hide/abandon 10 little elves that she makes for kids to find.  We went to the Bright Lights of Stanley Park Christmas display, which benefits the Firefighters Burn Fund. Good times, good cause, I’m lucky!!  And Elf, you are lucky too!!!  Joanne has already been notified that one of the elves were found by a little girl this afternoon.  AWWW!! (each is left with a little tag that says “give me a good home” and has a link to her facebook page “Forest Creatures of Stanley Park”.  So fun!)  And Joanne and Kevin, thank you for the hot chocolate.  Both Elf and I enjoyed it!  :)

Tonight, we’ve sent out for chicken dinner delivery.  I may have a glass of wine too.

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!  Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you are able to celebrate for anything this week!!!

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “Enchanting”.  I used this favorite from Costa Rica, these little monkeys were enchanting.

IMG_6315

It is “natural Christmas tree” week at 365 Days of Nature.  I opted out of the pine, and went for these pretty trees from a few weeks back.

IMG_0021

I put this photo from yesterday on Only Shades of Grey.  (yup, I still see frog legs)

IMG_4466bw

I was playing with some photos this morning (picmonkey is great for procrastination) and added a hat onto one of the raccoons I photographed yesterday.

IMG_4831hat

I did “catch up” shopping today.  I ran the errands I took the day off yesterday to do.  For the record, I hate traffic, I hate malls, I hate parking.  I do however, love Christmas music that I had playing in the car, love finding a bargain, love the eggnog latte I had, and love the fact that despite the crowds and yuck, it was a good day.  Sadly, no photos exist.

The only photos from the day follow.  We have just put the unnatural tree up, and now have to get lights and decorations on.  I’m going to post these, and unplug…..time to deck our halls.  As you will see, Neva is MOST helpful.

…then ditch the list.  It was SUCH a beautiful day here.  I had a vacation day to do my Christmas shopping.  And I woke up expecting to do that.  I did a BIT….but my beloved Lost Lagoon called me for a walk.  I’ll finish my shopping tomorrow.  Or Sunday.  Or next weekend.  :)

Before I left, I made two eggs and toast for breakfast.  I had a pork bun on the run at around 4:00pm today, so haven’t had dinner yet.  I’ll probably have a tuna melt.  Dennis is out tonight, and tuna melts are my often my “go to” when he’s out.  :)

IMG_4113

Today’s Photo A Day Challenge prompt is “Bright”.  I took this bright (and bright reflection) shot this afternoon.

IMG_4939

It is the last day of “where I walk” week at 365 Days in Nature.  Again, this one was taken today….

IMG_4697

I took this one today too.  Turned it black and white, posted it on Only Shades of Gray, and let out a big “awww”.

IMG_4808bw

Other shots from the day……

Hummingbirds on the deck and in a tree beside our deck.  AWW!

IMG_4147

IMG_4211

Another AWWW!

IMG_4218

This was a lovely diversion from the plans I had today.  :)  (and yes, I love raccoons, squirrels and assorted other birds.  A gentleman who apparently gives peanuts to the birds every day gave another woman and I some of the nuts so we could have little landings on our hand.  (Thank you John!!)  I ran into the older lady who goes there every day and feeds the swans.  She and the swans seem to have an amazing bond.  There was flooding on the paths again too.  We really are having odd weather.  TONS of wind, tons of rain, then gorgeous for a day, then the cycle starts again…..
